More than 150,000 Robinhood customers opened agentic trading accounts in the months after launch, and the AI tools behind them now handle about 30 million calls a day. Vlad Tenev, co-founder and CEO of Robinhood, told Sarah Guo on the No Priors podcast that the gains from AI are flowing to venture funds and institutions while ordinary investors own almost none of the private labs doing the work.

"If I'm an individual, I don't benefit economically from any of this activity. In fact, you could say... it's threatening my livelihood, my job, it's polluting my neighborhood." — Vlad Tenev

Vlad grew up in Bulgaria through inflation of about 170% a year, studied math toward a PhD before working in high-frequency trading, and now runs a broker live in more than 120 countries alongside Harmonic, a math AI startup he co-founded.

Key Takeaways

  • Robinhood frames everything it builds, from stock tokens to Trump accounts, as extending ownership

  • Vlad says AI math research is too concentrated inside the big labs

    • Harmonic's Aristotle model won gold at the International Math Olympiad

  • Over 150,000 customers opened agentic trading accounts within months of launch

    • Tool calls reached about 30 million a day

  • Retail investors cannot buy into the private AI labs the way they once bought early Microsoft or Amazon

  • Robinhood Chain is, by Vlad's account, among the fastest-growing blockchains ever

  • Trump accounts aim to lift household stock ownership from 65% to 95%

1. Ownership Is the One Idea

Vlad reduces Robinhood to a single word. He sees ownership as a route to personal financial freedom and as a stabilizer for society, because people with a stake in the system tend to defend it.

Vlad Tenev says broad ownership is what keeps a society stable

"A society without broad ownership is inherently very unstable. It's a fragile society." — Vlad Tenev

He tied three products to that idea. Trump accounts give children ownership from birth, Robinhood Ventures gives access to private companies before they list, and tokenization carries ownership to the 120-plus countries he says lack working banking systems.

2. Hyperinflation Shaped Vlad
