With Erica Dorfman, CFO of Brex
Brex had already moved its own corporate cash out of Silicon Valley Bank months before the bank failed, Erica Dorfman, CFO of Brex, told CJ Gustafson on Run the Numbers. Brex itself had no liquidity problem that weekend, and its customers still did.
Most corporate-card companies drift toward lending, because that is where the interest income is. Erica said Brex deliberately stayed out, because a bank can always borrow more cheaply than a fintech can.
"Lending is one of those businesses that it could be a great business, but you need to know that you're in the lending business." — Erica Dorfman
Erica ran capital markets at SoFi, launched Brex's cash product, ran its financial-services product group as general manager and then took the finance job. She has rebuilt her own role at Brex four or five times.
