With Jacob Andreou, EVP for Copilot at Microsoft

Microsoft Copilot EVP: every AI agent has its own email address

Every Autopilot agent inside the new Microsoft Copilot gets its own identity, its own permissions and its own audit trail, Jacob Andreou said, the same way a human employee does.

Consumer AI agents mostly handle small errands, like ordering food or checking a follower count. Andreou said Microsoft built its workplace version differently, giving each one a footprint inside the same admin console IT already uses to manage people.

"Autopilot actually has its own email address."

Jacob Andreou, Microsoft's EVP for Copilot, on CNBC's Squawk on the Street, leads the team that bundled the existing Copilot Chat and Cowork tools with two new pieces, Code and the autonomous Autopilot agents, into what he called a new work operating system.

The full segment is covered here so you can skip it.

Here are the 4 takeaways that matter.

Key Takeaways

  • Copilot bundles Chat, Cowork, Code and autonomous Autopilot agents into one work OS

    • Andreou compares it to Office defining the interface of the PC era

  • A non-technical staffer built her own research dashboard in the new Code tab, and it refreshes automatically

  • Every Autopilot agent gets an identity, permissions and a full audit trail, and shows up next to employees in the Microsoft 365 admin center

  • Sending an email, deleting one, or making a purchase always needs a human's explicit approval

  • Pricing splits into a flat per-employee seat and usage-based billing for the hardest tasks

1. One Interface for AI

The anchor asked how Andreou would describe the update to someone who already uses Copilot, and to someone who doesn't. He framed it around what happens once a new wave of technology arrives.

Office defined the PC era; Copilot is becoming that for AI

"And with Copilot, that's really going to become this interface to AI, especially when you're bringing it into the workplace." — Jacob Andreou

He said the update keeps the existing Chat and Cowork tools and adds two more: Code, for pulling together data and building things like dashboards, and Autopilot, agents that carry out tasks on their own rather than answering one question at a time.

Autonomous agents are the piece he's most excited about

"And then our probably most exciting thing, autonomous agents with Autopilot." — Jacob Andreou

2. Autopilot Runs His Inbox
